Carolinas Associated General Contractors (CAGC) is a 100-year-old trade association that serves the construction industry in the Carolinas and was named the number one AGC association nationally in 2019. Headquartered in Charlotte, NC, CAGC is seeking a motivated and experienced Education, Training & Safety Manager.  This position is ideal for a person with skills strong in education & training development, class/event organization and an understanding of how to develop and deliver training offerings. Summary of Position

This position focuses on the design, growth and execution of CAGC’s education, safety & training experiences leveraging world-class instruction and offerings to meet the training, safety and learning needs of CAGC’s members. This is a key, high-profile, hands-on role that is critical to one of the major pillars of CAGC’s mission – helping our members improve & grow all aspects of their business, including their technical skills.

The Education, Training & Safety Manager is responsible for CAGC’s training strategy, with focus on the design, development, and evaluation of training offerings. This position will work closely with the CEO, VP Ops, the Membership team, our lobbyists, marketing team, members and subject-matter experts across the organization to identify CAGC’s member learning & training needs and meet those needs. S/he will be responsible for the planning, creation, promotion, delivery, and evaluation processes for learning opportunities that facilitate CAGC’s members in acquiring knowledge, skills and competencies in an effective and appealing manner.

In addition, this position will work with internal and external stakeholders to analyze training needs, train staff on learning design and delivery best practices, develop and implement quality assurance processes, define measures of success, and coordinate the collection and review of learning datasets that inform CAGC’s stakeholder engagement strategies. Keep pace with changing technology within the education & training industry and more broadly across industry sectors. Provide leadership and direction on industry standards, platform capabilities, and market trends.

Lastly, this person will manage the education, safety and training offerings and coordinate with other CAGC Staff on the implementation of such offerings.

Job Requirements

  • Seeking a college graduate preferably in Construction management, Publishing, Education, Communications or equivalent industry experience.
  • High energy with a strong drive to win. Background of progressive advancement.  
  • Multiple backgrounds will be considered:  
    • Construction industry. Specifically, work with Safety, Training, Estimation, Project Management, etc. Understanding certification needs of industry is desired.
    • Publishing.
    • Education.
    • Communications.
  • Minimum 3+ years of relevant experience with developing and facilitating learning programs in a corporate setting, preferably in construction industry.
  • Demonstrated leader with business experience.
  • Knowledge of current best practices related to adult learning principles.
  • Ability to master various technology, web and data management systems.
  • Understanding of design and development principles, best practices, learning theories, and how they vary depending on delivery method.
  • Strong administrative and project management skills.
  • Construction industry experience is desirable but not required.  Existing relationships in key markets and deep knowledge of our industry is a big plus.
  • Innovative and resourceful; actively seeks opportunities to improve educational and event offerings.
  • Ability to prioritize, meet deadlines and work independently or with minimal supervision.
  • Results oriented with demonstrated capability of meeting tight deadlines.
  • Instill confidence and trust among learning attendees; positively represent CAGC to members and vendors; effectively work with CAGC Staff at all levels.
  • Self-starter, who is a motivated initiator, versatile and willing to take risks to aggressively grow the organization.
  • Maintains close liaison with all other staff members and manages the involvement of volunteer members as needed as well as Subject-Matter Experts. Potentially create an education, safety & training Task Force to steer the direction, vision and offerings of CAGC learning opportunities.
  • Computer literate (Excellent knowledge of Excel, Word, Outlook and PowerPoint applications). Experience with iMIS Association Management Software preferred but not required.
  • Willingness and ability to travel when job requires. Valid driver’s license and good driving record.
